Clinton/Edwards '08?

This is not a political blog. But bear with me for a few minutes.Clinton_4

Hillary Clinton and John Edwards had an unscripted moment Thursday at the NAACP candidate forum. They didn't know the mic was hot and were overheard talking about how to thin out the number of candidates participating in the presidential events (debates, forums, pig roasts, etc.).

Clinton: “We’ve got to talk, because they are just being trivialized.”

Edwards: “They are not serious.”

Clinton: “No.”

Clinton: “I think there was an effort by our campaigns to do that. That got somehow detoured. We got to get back to it, because that’s all we’re going to do.”

On the newsmaking scale, this story is a non-starter. Of course behind the scene deals and strategizing happens. They don't call it strategery for nothing. Jon Slotkin and I brokered a similar deal in the 8th Grade election at Landon. I agreed not to run for class president, opting for the vice president position instead and locking up the historic all-Jew ticket. So it's not news that this happens during the campaign for the most powerful position in the world (not that VP of Landon's 8th Grade didn't come with its perks).

The real news here is the closeness of the candidates. They get along well. They seem to genuinely like each other. And they know that a combined ticket would be killer. Clinton/southern Senator works (please visit this link ... it's worth it). It's a proven model. It worked in '92 and '96. And it will work again in 2008.
