Big congratulations to Barack and his team and supporters. I really don't care whether Obama or Clinton win the nomination. I like them both. But here's what I'm excited about:
~ HUGE TURNOUT: Seems like there was record turnout in Iowa. It's early and I don't have the numbers. But from all accounts turnout was huge. This is promising for the process, generally, and the Democrats, specifically. I wrote in depth about why people don't vote in 1996. Since 1930 the average turnout in presidential elections has been 56 percent. The highest came in 1960, when 63 percent of the voting-age population, or 69 million people, elected John F. Kennedy the nation's 35th president. Maybe this election represents a turning point in the ennui that lead to the last 8 years.
~ UNITER: It's pretty amazing that a black man won a state that is 95% white. That's pretty cool and shows why we're such a great country. Maybe Barack will be the uniter that the country needs.
~ MITT ROMNEY: This guy scares me. I'm excited that he finished so poorly. We don't know nearly enough about him to support him as president.
I love election years. So much to talk about.
