Warning - I'm posting this from the beach outside the Ritz in South Beach. Excuse the spelling.
I have been sitting atop the wooden fence between Camp Obama and Camp Hillary. I will support either in the general election but have been trying to feel strongly about one or the other.
Hillary is more experienced. She does start day 1 knowing her way around the greater DC campus, and not just the legislative corridors. And she has taken specific positions on pretty much every issue. Because of this, I have been leaning toward jumping into her camp.
Obama is more insipirational. Young people are energized. And he probably is the face our country needs worldwide. But his lack of accomplishments of any kind and at any level (state, federal, in the legal world) scares me.
As the campaign grinds on, one thing is now clear. Hillary has mismanaged her campaign. Obama has not. She has wasted money on states and expenses that have not been fruitful. She hired the wrong people at the wrong prices. And she has made several strategic blunders that have lead to her current position.
The Bman, however, has made a few moves that now look genius. Calling in the Other O (Oprah) in Iowa. Focusing his fundraising on the grassroots level and not top-down like Hillary (I.e. He has been able to go back to the well to fund the campaign). And he has allocated resources more effectively (just look at his one-point victory in Missouri versus Hillary's wasted money in South Carolina).
It now looks like the Senator from Illinois has run a more effective campaign operation. And like managing the government and the country there are almost infinite moving parts, making focus, leadership, sound decisions and smart hiring critical.
I will continue to support either democratic candidate in the general. But hats off to Obama for showing us that he indeed can lead, and lead effectively and cost efficiently. I feel much better about his candidacy now.
