I'm posting this from my BlackBerry. So please excuse the typos. I don't want to get a Medill F. That will also explain the location and quality of the photos in the post.
I'm writing as I visit the Chelsea art galleries, one of my favorite things to do in NYC. I'll post what resonates with me. Some will be stuff I like. Others will be stuff that I don't like. I should do this everytime I visit art galleries as I'll have a record of what I liked/disliked. So, here I go.
Walking, walking, walking. Walking.
The first shot is a piece by rodney graham. The second shot is a shot of how he makes each piece. Very interesting. 303 Gallery, Chelsea.
This next picture is from the "only in NY bucket." Only in NY can you sell multimillion dollar condos from a "onsite sales tin," also known as a large garbage bin.
This next shot is one of a series of giant objects (bowls in this case) by robert therrien at gagosian gallery. The scale is impressive. Need a very large space to show these. Also included a shot of giant folding chairs and pots and pans. Kids would have loved this one.
What I love most about the next picture is that I'm in it. That's the only redeeming value of this piece from mary boone gallery. One's art taste is subjective, so my presence in the piece as a viewer may be a deal breaker for you.
The next photo is of a staircase-turned-waterfall at the entrance of the tony shafrazi gallery. I created a similar one in the FIJI house at NU with Brian Payne and Doug Brinkley in 1996. Not to boast, but mine was over 4 flights of stairs and it came cascading down the center opening of the stairs into a baby pool in the entrance. UPDATE: just checked out the art. Liked the waterfall better.
Yes. This next picture is of a maserati being towed. Now that's a work of art if I've ever seen one.
Enough of chelsea. I'm off to soho.
